RJN House

The brief from the client was to design a contemporary family home inspired by the work of  the Austrian-American mid century architect Richard Neutra. The basic form of the house is an L, comprised of a series of horizontal planes which float past each other opening to the north to make the most of the sites incredible views.  Every facade and opening was designed so as to blur the distinction between inside and outside. The main challenge with this design was to achieve the signature elements of Neutras work; a thin floating roof, large openings and uninteruped views whilst still achieving a sense of timeless modesty .
